Boys Basketball Team Splits Games With A-C Valley And Redbank Valley (02/03/14)

The Clarion Area Boys Basketball played at A-C Valley on Friday and hosted Redbank Valley on Saturday.

The Bobcats downed A-C Valley, 70-51, but lost to Redbank Valley, 68-39. The JVs defeated the Falcons 48-28 and the Bulldogs, 49-42.

Antonio Troese, Taylor Smith, Brendan Miller and Cody Hearst all scored in double figures in leading the Cats over A-C Valley.

Troese led the Bobcats with 17 points, including three treys, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and three steals. Smith had 16 points, including four 3-pointers and a steal. Miller had a double-double, scoring 12 points and collecting 12 rebounds. He also had two assists. Hearst had 11 points, 2 assists and a steal.

The Bobcats led 22-14, after one, 40-26, at the half and 55-39 after the third period. A 15-12, Bobcat advantage in the last stanza, set the 70-51 final.

Steven Smathers chipped in with 7 points, including a 3-pointer, 4 assists and a steal. Ellis Painter had 3 points, 6 assists and two steals, while Damien Cherico had four points.

The Falcons’ Jeff Eaton led all scorers with 26 points and Dylan Fox had seventeen.

The JV game saw the Bobcats lead 13-6, 24-14 and 34-21 after each of the first three periods respectively, before closing out the contest at 48-28.

Zach Hill led the way for Clarion with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Reed Anthony had 8 points, with two treys. Luke Nellis had 6 points, Ty Burford and Derek Lauer each had 5 points, Ryan Anthony had 4 points and Mark Liu had two.

John Anderson had 8 points for the Falcon JVs, while Zach Muhl and Austin Heeter each had five.

Redbank Game

The Bobcat Varsity trailed after each period against Redbank Valley, 10-5, after one, 26-17, at the half and 47-29 after three before falling 68-39.

Ellis Painter led the Cats with 16 points (ten in the first half). Brendan Miller, Taylor Smith and Antonio Troese each scored 6 points, Levi Barger scored 3 and Cody Hearst had two.

Jake Dougherty scored 23 for the Bulldogs, followed by Devin Shumaker, with twenty-one.

In the Boys’ JV game, the Bulldogs led 14-12, after one and 27-24, at the half, but the Bobcats came back to lead, 39-35, heading into the last stanza, where a 10-7, Clarion advantage set the final at 49-42.

Zach Hill led the Bobcat JVs with 15 points. Luke Nellis had 8, Ryan Anthony had 7, while Reed Anthony and Craig Kerr each had six. Micheal Bartley had 7 points and Thomas Plummer had two.

Kaleb Reed had 18 points to lead the Bulldog JVs. Khorey Neiswonger and Dalton Dougherty had 8 points apiece. James Schilling had six.

The Bobcats host Clarion-Limestone on Monday.
