Lady Cats Clinch Second Straight KSAC North Championship With Win Over West Forest (02/12/14)

The Clarion High School Girls Basketball Team clinched their second straight KSAC North Championship, with a home court, 75-51, victory over the Lady Indians of West Forest, on Tuesday night. The victory propels the Lady Cats into the KSAC Championship Game against South Champion, Karns City, set for Friday at 8:00PM, at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium.

The Bobcats were led by three players, in double figures, Maci Thornton with 22 points, Kyla Miles with 21 and Grace Kroh with sixteen.

Clarion broke out to a 19-7 lead after the first period. The scoring was close in quarters’ two and three. The Cats outscored the Indians, 20-16, in the second, to take a 39-23 lead into halftime. West Forest had a one point scoring edge, in the third, making the score 56-41, in favor of Clarion, heading into the last stanza, where a 19-10, Bobcat edge set the final.

Nicki Glenn scored six points, on two 3-point buckets. Laken Ganoe, Lauren Wiser, Olivia Bartley, Kate Beichner and Julie Kenneson each contributed two points.

The Clarion JVs lost a close, 36-33, game to West Forest. The Bobcats led 6-4, after the first period, but a 9-6 edge by the Indians, in the second, gave West Forest a 13-12 lead at the half. With a 9-5 Clarion edge, in the third, the Cats led 21-19, heading into the last quarter. But an 18-12, West Forest edge, in the fourth set the final.

Gloria Kroh led the Bobcat JV scoring with seven points. She also had three rebounds.

Kelly Beveridge had 6 points, including a 3-pointer, 3 rebounds and 3 steals, Anna Reed contributed 5 points, 5 steals and a rebound, Nicki Glenn had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 steals and Madison Weaver had 4 points, a steal and two rebounds.

Lauren Wiser had 3 points, 2 rebounds and a steal, Julie Kenneson scored 2 points and had 3 rebounds and Jenna Beichner chipped in with two points.
