TCS/C-E Basketball All-Stars Announced, Kyla Miles And Coach Walter Take Top Honors (03/25/14)

The Tri-County Sunday and Courier Express Newspapers, in Dubois, announced their 2013-14 Basketball Teams in Sunday’s (February 23rd) edition of the TCS. There are twelve schools  included on the Teams: Clarion, Brockway, Brookville, Clarion-Limestone, Curwensville, Dubois, Dubois Central Catholic, Elk County Catholic, Johnsonburg, Ridgway, Redbank Valley and St. Marys.

Clarion Area came away with the top honors on the Girls Team, with senior, Kyla Myles being selected as the Player of the Year and Coach Roger Walter getting the nod as Coach of the Year.

For Miles, went over 1,200 points for her career, this was her first Player of the Year selection and her third straight First Team Selection.

This is the third straight Coach of the Year honor for Coach Walter, who guided the Lady Cats to their second straight District Nine Class-A title, their third straight District Title Game appearance, their second straight PIAA Elite Eight appearance, and their third straight year with 20-plus wins. Coach Walter is the first coach to win the award three straight years.

Joining Miles on the First Team, is junior Maci Thornton, who broke the 1,000 point barrier this year. This is Thornton’s second straight First Team selection. Also named to the Girls Squad, for the Lady Cats, was senior Grace Kroh who received Honorable Mention.

Two Bobcats made the Boys Team as Honorable Mention selections, senior Antonio Troese and sophomore Taylor Smith. Troese was also an Honorable Mention, last season.

The Boys Team is led by Co-Players of the Year, and teammates, Cameron Grumley and Cole Peterson from the Johnsonburg Rams. Ridgway’s Tony Allegretto was named Coach of the Year.

Second Team: Abby Mellott, Clarion-Limestone; Alissa Burns, Clarion-Limestone.

Honorable Mention: Hali Olson, Brookville.

Boys

First Team: R. J. Laugand, Clarion-Limestone; Nate Shirts, Brookville.

Second Team: Jake Dougherty, Redbank Valley.

Third Team: Josh Kahle, Clarion-Limestone; Kolton Stiglitz, Clarion-Limestone; Devin Shumaker, Redbank Valley; Tate Canavan, Brookville; Jack Huggins, Brookville.
