Bobcats Open Season By Downing Tide 10-0 In 5 Innings (04/03/14)

The Clarion Area Baseball Team traveled to Curwensville, on Wednesday, to complete their season opening game, that began last Friday, but was suspended due to the weather.

The game resumed with the score 0-0, in the second inning. That changed quickly as the Bobcats scored two runs in the second on their way to a 10-0, 5 inning victory. The Cats added on 6 runs in the third and 2 more in the fifth.

Matt Verne went two innings and was credited with the win. He struck out 4 and walked 3. He pitched out of a bases loaded jam. Verne along with Max Lane, Brendan Miller and Derek Lauer allowed just 3 hits, in the shutout win over the Golden Tide.

Offensively, the Bobcats played small ball as they collected 11 hits. Ten were singles, the  other was a double. They stole 9 bases, in 11 attempts.

Miller went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored and three stolen bases. Tanner Corbett went 3 for 4, including a double. He had an RBI, scored a run and stole two bases. Adrian Weber had 2 hits in 2 at bats with an RBI, 2 runs scored and two stolen bases.

Verne was 2 for 4 at the plate, with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Lauer was 1 for 2 with an RBI, 2 runs scored and two stolen bases. Leo Aiello and Thomas Plummer each scored a run.

Today’s game at North Clarion has been cancelled. The Bobcats will host Venango Catholic tomorrow (Friday, April 3) at 4:15 P.M.
