Burford & Henry Claims 1st Place In 2014 Clarion Minor League Playoffs (07/28/14)

A five-run sixth inning propels Burford & Henry past Clark Electric in the 2014 Clarion Minor League playoff tournament, on Thursday, July 17th, with a score of 11-8 to end the season.

- Celebration after Tommy Smith’s Home Run
Down by two runs going into the top of the sixth, Burford & Henry needed a big inning to stay alive. Kothan Smith led the inning off with a single, followed by a base hit by Isaac Lerch. Brady Pierce followed with a fielder’s choice, forcing K. Smith out at third. Ben Aaron’s sacrifice hit for the second out of the inning, put the runners into scoring position.
With two outs Hunter Connell’s hit scored Lerch to put Burford & Henry within one run. Jake Smith then hit a high fly that dropped into the infield to score Pierce to tie up the game. Tommy Smith then ripped a ball into right field for an inside the park home run to give Burford & Henry a three run lead.
Ty Rankin finished up the five run inning with a double of his own. Kwynton Leadbetter and Jack Craig also supplied hits throughout the game.
Burford & Henry held Clark Electric in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory.

Superb hitting and defense was played out by both teams to make for a very exciting championship game.
