Clarion 9-10 All-Stars Open District Play With 15-1 Win Over East Butler (07/01/14)

The Clarion 9/10 All-Star team opened play on June 30th against East Butler in the PA District 25 9/10 All-Star Tournament. The Clarion bats were on fire as Clarion walked away from the outing with fourteen hits. Clarion started the game scoring three runs in the first inning on hits by Noah DiTullio and Brady Fowkes. Ryan Hummel led off inning two ripping a double to right center field. Jordie Hesdon walked putting runners at first and second, as Chase Kriebel followed ripping a single, scoring Hummel and Hesdon. DiTullio grounded into a fielders choice moving Kriebel to third. Kriebel scores on a double from Lapinto.

The third inning continued with excitement from the Clarion line-up as they sent nine batters to the plate, scoring four runs. Bryson Huwar and Corbin Courson both hit singles and Hesdon walks. Bases are loaded when Kriebel comes to the plate and rips a double off the right center fence, scoring three runs. DiTullio singled to right scoring Kriebel. Clarion finishes the half inning leading 10-0. In the bottom of the third, Kriebel comes up with a big diving catch for the first out of the inning. Young gets walked for East Butler and Hurley bunts for an infield single. Geibel hits a single to push Young across the plate for East Butlers score. After 3 innings of play: Clarion- 10, East Butler- 1.

Clarion sent eight batters to the plate in inning four scoring five runs. Jesse Lewis singled and Hummell walked. Ryan Alston hits a solid shot up the middle scoring both Lewis and Hummell. Christian Simko hits a single and Kriebel walks. With bases loaded DiTullio hits a ball back to the pitcher, who tries to make the play at the plate. Alston streaks down the third base line to beat the throw and Simko follows close behind as the catcher is not able to handle the throw. Heads up base running moves Kriebel to third and DiTullio to second. With one out in the inning and runners on first and third, Lapinto hits a deep ball to right field. Kriebel and DiTullio both tag, Kriebel scores and DiTullio moves to third, the short stop misses the ball and Manger DiTullio sends DiTullio home. Short stop Collins for East Butler was able to chase the ball down and make a throw to home getting DiTullio out to close the top half of the inning. Score after 3 ½ innings Clarion – 15, East Butler 1.

Ryan Hummel continued his outing on the mound getting two quick ground outs from East Butler. The next batter for East Butler, Bower rips a ball over Lapinto’s head in left field and stretches it for a double. Simko executing some great defensive backup fires a rocket into second base. Bower had rounded seconded base not expecting a throw, as second baseman Alston realized he was past the bag, he tagged him out for the third out of the inning.

Cameron Lapinto and Ryan Hummell held East Butler to three hits and one run in the outing. Lapinto pitched two and a third scoreless innings on the mound, striking out five batters, and giving up two hits. Hummell completed the third and fourth innings on the mound, striking out two batters and giving up one hit.
