Coach Quinn Shares Summary Of 7th-8th Grade Football Victory Over St. Marys (09/10/14)

Coach Jesse Quinn is very pleased with his 7th-8th Grade Football team’s performance, in their victory over St. Marys. He shares the following summary of the game:

The Clarion Area 7th-8th Grade Football Team opened the 2014 season with a 24-14 victory over the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen on Thursday, September 4th.

The Bobcats scored first on a very nice run by Logan Minich. Logan took the ball and ran through a nicely opened hole. The offensive line did a nice job on the play.

The Dutchmen came right back on their first play from scrimmage. The Dutchmen tightened took a pass and went more than 60 yards for the score. This tied the contest 6-6 in the first quarter.

This was The only touchdown that was scored on our starting defense. That defense, coached by Dr. Randy Cathcart showed its dominance as 7th grader Skylar Rhoads leveled the St. Marys running back causing a fumble. Archer Mills picked up the loose ball and scampered 25 yards to the house. The two point conversion failed. The cats led 12-6.

Later in the second half, Skylar took a pitch and led by Jacob Burns at fullback, crossed the goal line easily, bringing to score to 18-6.

Jacob Burns also did a nice job of running the ball at fullback taking the offense down inside the ten yard-line. From there, Sam Minich (twin brother of Logan) score the final touchdown for the Bobcats.

Every player suited in an orange uniform saw time on the field. Many younger Bobcats did a fine job for our squad. Nate Datko, a 7th grader, among others stepped in at a position he hadn’t played before and excelled. He jumped in at tight-end and made a key block that enabled the Bobcat runner to gain many yards! Hats off to Nate and his teammates who were willing to step on the field (at any position) and contribute.

St. Marys scored a late touchdown and was successful on their two point conversion to end the scoring. With the final being 24-14, the Cats were pleased with the performance and the victory.

The next contest will be Thursday, September 11, when the boys will travel to Ridgway to take on the Elkers. The 7th-8th grade will kick-off at 5 pm.
