Girls Junior High Basketball Teams Split With St. Stephens

There was a mix-up in communication between schools as St. Stephens played their “A” team against Clarion’s “B” team in the first game. So Clarion’s “A” team played St. Stephens “B” team in the nightcap.

“A” game – Clarion 38 – St. Stephens 10
Clarion used a dominating first quarter, outscoring St. Stephens 16-0,to set the tone for the game as the Lady Cats went to defeat their opponent by the score of 38-10. Clarion led 22-4 at the half and 34-6 after three. Wendy Beveridge was high scorer for the Lady Cats with 15.

Ali Troese and Kaylie Lutz followed with 6 markers. Gabby Weaver and Kaitlyn Constantino each scored 4 points a piece and Dorothy Kalinowski finished with 2 points. Carly Best added a free throw to finish the scoring.

“B” game – St. Stephens 24 – Clarion 8
St. Stephens “A” team defeated Clarion’s “B” team in the first game of the doubleheader. Clarion’s “B” team held their own against a very good St. Stephens team. Clarion trailed 8-2 at the half and 16-2 after three quarters. Clarion scored 6 points in the final frame to St. Stephens’ 8 points to set the final.

Carly Best led the Lady Cats with 4 points, while Kaitlyn Constantino and Lindsey Kemmer finished with a pair. It was a very good showing for the Lady Cats against their “A” team. The young Cats played aggressively and did not back down from their talented opponents.
