Lady Cats’ Outstanding Volleyball Season Ends In State Semi-Final (11/13/14)

The Clarion Area Lady Cats Volleyball Team saw their outstanding season come to an end at Indiana High School on Tuesday night (November 11), with a five set loss to Greensburg Central Catholic, Lady Centurions.

The match  saw the Cats jump out to a 2-0 lead, as they downed the Centurions 25-23 and 25-17.

Clarion led by as much as eight points, several times in the first game, the last time at 15-7, but GCC chipped away and took their first and only lead at 21-20, but the Cats scored five of the last seven points to win by two. After leading by only three, at 18-15, in game two, the Bobcats outscored the Centurions 7-2, to close out the game.

Needing three straight wins, GCC got in the win column after breaking a 19-all deadlock before pulling out a 25-20 victory. Game four saw the Lady Cats up 23-22,  but the Lady Centurions scored three straight points to take a 25-23 win.

The match now came down to a winner take all game to 15, for a trip to the State Title match. Clarion led by as much as three points, as late as 10-7, but GCC took their first lead of the game at 13-12 and scored two more unanswered points to win the game 15-13 and the match.

It is ironic that the Centurions took the same route to the State-Finals, that the Cats did against them, in the Semi-Final,  two seasons ago, dropping the first two games and then winning the final three.

Although Clarion’s season fell a little short of what was hoped for, it was still a great season none the less. The girls won their 5th straight KSAC Title and 5th straight District Nine Class-A Title. They made it to the Western Final. They played some great volleyball throughout the season, including Tuesday night, great match by two great teams.

It has been my pleasure to watch these girls numerous times this season and see them play at a very high level and see them represent Clarion Area School District and this Community, with maturity and sportsmanship, in a way we can all be very proud of.

Thank you, Ladies!!!!
