Lady Cats Win 5th Straight D-9 Class A Volleyball Title (11/02/14)

The Clarion Area Volleyball Team traveled to St. Marys High School on Saturday (November 1) for the 2014 District Nine Class-A Semi-Finals and Championship. When the smoke cleared the Lady Cats did what they had done, the last four years. They came away with a Championship Plaque and individual First Place Medals for the players and coaches.

The Cats started the day with a three-set victory, over next door neighbor Keystone, in one Semi-Final. The individual game scores were: 25-23, 25-18 and 25-19.

Jen Ochs had a fine Semi-Final, scoring 9 service points (1 ace), while registering 10 kills and ten digs.

Katie Eustice dished out 30 assists, while collecting 7 service points and five digs. Anna Reed had 8 service points (3 aces), 2 assists and eighteen digs. Anna McNamara had 6 service points (2 aces), 9 kills 3 digs and and assist. Johnna Rapp had 5 service points and a pair of digs, while Olivia Burns scored 4 service points (1 ace) and had 8 kills and four digs. Gloria Kroh had six kills and a dig and Keanna Over had 3 kills and six digs.

They had to wait for the next Semi-Final match, between A-C Valley and Elk County Catholic, to conclude, for their Finals opponent to be decided. In that one, the Lady Crusaders of ECC emerged victorious, over the Lady Falcons, in straight sets, 25-18, 25-13, 25-21.

The Bobcats then downed the Crusaders, with a strong three-set victory, winning by 25-19, 25-17 and 25-11 securing the Championship and a place in the PIAA State Playoffs. Katie Eustice really stepped it up in the Final, scoring 16 service points (5 aces), while dishing out 36 assists and collecting 16 digs and a kill. Jen Ochs had an ace among her 10 service points. She had 23 digs and nine kills. Anna Reed had 9 service points (1 ace) and15 digs. Anna McNamara had 5 digs, 8 kills, 2 assists and one service point. Olivia Burns had 13 kills and one dig and a service point. Johnna Rapp had four service points. Gloria Kroh had six kills and Sophie Wolf had a kill.

The Crusaders will join the Bobcats in the State Playoffs, after downing Keystone, 25-18, 25-23, in the match for true second.

Clarion’s first State Playoff match will be against the number three team out of District Seven (WPIAL) at Dubois High School, on Tuesday (November 4) at 7 PM.
