Bobcat Wrestlers Open Season With A Win (12/17/14)

The Clarion Bobcat Varsity Wrestling Team opened their 2014-15 season with a 46-24 victory over visiting Keystone, on Tuesday (December 16).

Keystone’s Evan Redding won the first match, at 182, by fall over Karlin Hiles. At 195, Alexander Burkhart lost a well fought match to Keystone’s Zach Stiglitz, 7-3 and Zach Sintobin lost a tough 3-2 (2-OT) decision to Tyler Beal. Keystone led 12-0 at that point.

Bobcats Zach Huet (Heavyweight) and Alex Struble (106) received forfeits, tying the score at 12-all. Panther Julie Dittman received a forfeit at 113 and Bobcat Riley McMaster won by forfeit at 120 to knot the score again, 18-all.

After a forfeit win by Caleb Bailey at 126, the Bobcats led 24-18. Adrian Weber registered a 13-2 major decision at 132, to move the Cats’ lead to 28-18.  Leo Aiello lost a close hard fought 7-6 match to Panther Nick Baughman, making the score 28-21.

Colton Rapp received a forfeit, for Clarion, at 145.  Prince Brooks lost 8-2 at 152. Forfeit wins by Bobcats Mike Lefay, at 160 and Austin Holtz at 170, set the final at 46-24.

The Clarion Junior High Team won their match 63-3. Sterling Conner(130) and Clayton Adams (138) and Justin Goodman registered pins, for the Bobcats. Seth Nellis (210) won 3-0, Daniel Ketner (110) registered an 11-5 win and Frankie Weber (122) downed his opponent 8-1.

Receiving forfeit wins for theyoung Bobcats were Tommy Wurster (250), Zach Foust (75), Riley Slagle (80) and Logan Dehner (90).

The Bobcat Elementary Wrestlers were introduced prior to the Junior High match and then they had a number of exhibition bouts.

The Bobcats will next see action, on Thursday (December 18) when they host Kittanning.

The night will feature a fund raiser for Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, in honor of Clarion student Alaina McMaster, with fans being encouraged to purchase a T-Shirt from the Curerock foundation.
