2014-15 Lady Cats Basketball Team Banquet Held (04/14/15)

The Clarion Area Girls Basketball Boosters treated the Lady Cats Basketball Team to their Annual Banquet on Monday night (April 13th), at the High School.

The event began with a in the cafeteria, with Coach Ed Baumcratz welcoming those in attendance. Then Dave Constantino gave the blessing before everyone enjoyed a fine meal catered by Daddys.

After the meal, everyone proceeded  to the Large Group Instruction room where the Awards Ceremony took place.

Coach Baumcratz gave a brief overview of the season and gave special recognition to those responsible for the fine season. Special recognition was given to his good friend, Clarion Area assistant principle and athletic director, Roger Walter, who turned over the reigns to Coach Baumcratz.

Then the Lady Cats’  seniors were introduced. Coach Baumcratz shared some fine comments on each of the four girls who completed their Clarion Area Basketball careers: Julie Kenneson, Lauren Wiser, Maci Thornton and Nicky Glenn.

Coach Baumcratz introduced the other members of the team. Then letters and pins were handed out to those who lettered this past season.

The three team awards were presented. “The Roger Walter – Bobcat Award” which goes to a player or other individual, “for being  a great person,” went to Julie Kenneson. Both of the other awards, Defensive MVP and overall MVP went to Maci Thornton.

After thanking the parents and the players whose playoff run was brought about by “hard work and determination” the coach provided of the night’s major highlights… the season highlight video.

Booster Club president, Bridget Thornton thanked various people, among them Rose and Paul Weaver for heading the 3-on-3 tournament and Melissa Glenn for her work on the banquet. The players were presented with gifts.  Brigit Thornton thanked Coach Baumcratz, his wife and kids and Assistant Coach Angela Neiderriter. The coaches were presented gifts.

Then Maci Thornton gave an emotional speech, thanking the coaches and teammates and sharing her thoughts on her years with the team. She closed by saying, “I love you guys and thank you. I won’t be around next year, make me proud.”
