Clarion Track And Field Athletes Have Good Weekend (04/19/15)

Clarion Area Track and Field athletes competed in two invitational tournaments this weekend, with a number of boys competing at the Butler and Lady Cat Jenn Ochs competing at Kane.

Ethan Straffin was the top finisher for the Bobcats, at the Butler Invitational on Friday, capturing the javelin competition, with a throw of 155-6. His throw is tops in District Nine AA, so far this season.

Distance runner, Liam Raehsler medaled in two events, the 3200 and 1600. Raehsler’s time of 9:41.78, in the 3200, earned him a fourth place medal and his 4:29.86 was good for a fifth place. Both times are tops in District Nine, on the year.

Jenn Ochs, Lady Cats’ lone participant, at the Kane Invitational on Saturday, turned in a solid performance in the javelin. Her throw of 115 feet earned her a second place medal. Ochs recently set the Clarion Area School record in the event, with a throw of 128-6, at A-C Valley earlier in the week.

The Bobcat Boys finished in 15th place out of 33 teams, at Butler.

Adam Bettwy turned in personal best times in the 3200 at 11:21.41 and 1600 at5:19.43, while Kyle Bettwy turned in his personal best time of 2:22.03.

Other Bobcats competing at Butler were Ian Corbett, Josh Kriebel, Jimmy Smathers and Matt Wagner.
