Lady Cats Fall To Redbank Valley In KSAC Softball Matchup (04/12/15)

The Clarion Area Softball Team lost for the first time this season as fell to homestanding Redbank Valley, 13-3, in 5 innings, on Saturday (April 11th). The loss moved the Lady Cats’ record to 3-1.

The Cats went scoreless in their half of the first, but the Lady Bulldogs scored 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. Redbank added two more in the bottom of the second, to up their lead to 7-0. Keanna Over had a triple, in the top of the third, but was thrown out, at the plate, trying to stretch it to a home run.

Clarion got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. With two outs Cora Zerfoss singled and then the next batter, Sadie Rudesyle put the ball over the fence, in left field, for a two run homer, cutting the Bulldogs’ lead to 7-2.

Redbank Valley answered right back, in the bottom of the inning, scoring 6 runs to move their lead to 13-2.

The Cats tacked on another run in the fifth as Maya Thornton singled, stole second and came around to score on a single by Keanna Over, setting the final score.

Dakota Hetrick was the winning pitcher. Lauren Rearick and Megan Nolf each had three RBIs, for the Bulldogs.

Coach Dan Shofestall said, “Give Redbank credit. They hit the ball well. Their pitcher did well, throwing strikes, getting ahead in the count; she did really well, that way. Give them a lot of credit. They hit the ball well.

“We just got to keep working. Everything’s repairable. Nice seeing the home run.”
