(By Clarion Manager, Rob Jewett)

Max threw another gem allowing 5 hits 1 earned run (the first all year!) and striking out 8. Otto-Eldred was able to take advantage of walks as they scored their 2 runs in the first three innings.

Max would then silence their bats, as he shut them down the rest of the game.

Clarion collected 8 hits on offense. Derek Lauer had a great game hitting a single and a double, but it was freshman Cameron Craig who had a clutch hit in the fourth inning.

Runners were on first and second, with two outs and Clarion was trailing 2-1 in the game. Craig hit a soft liner over the shortstop’s head. Aiello scored easily, but the left fielder misplayed the ball which allowed Wilson to also score on the play, giving Clarion a 3-2 lead which they would not surrender the rest of the game.

Meeting on the mound

Meeting on the mound

I thought that was a huge at bat for Cameron. With two outs and a runner in scoring position and your team down in a playoff game, you couldn’t get more clutch!

Max would then do the rest on the mound. I thought Max threw well today. He was able to settle in and make them hit his pitches. He’s a gamer and always wants the ball, so you feel confident as a coach with him on the mound controlling the game.
