Boys And Girls Track And Field Teams Hold Awards Picnic (05/31/15)

The Clarion Area Track and Field Team’s  2015 Awards Picnic was held on Tuesday, May 26th, at the Clarion County Park, hosted by the Booster Club.

The event which honored this past season’s team, coaches and parents began with the meal. Then Boys head coach Ben Bevevino and assistant coach Dan Alderton presented the Boys Awards.

The Boys Track MVP award went to Liam Raehsler, who was the District Nine Class-AA Champion in the 1600 and 3200 and the sixth place finisher in the 3200 at States. The Boys Field MVP is Ethan Straffin, who competed in all three throwing events and was also on the 4×100 relay team.

Ian Corbett won the Coaches Award. Corbett won the District Nine Class-AA Title in the long jump and shared the 100 title with Karns City’s Logan Moroney. Corbett won the third place medal in the long jump at States.

The Bob Bowersox Award, named for the longtime Bobcat coach, went to Matt Wagner. The award is given to “the athlete who displays the most dedication to the sport of track and field.”

Sophomore Josh Kriebel won the David H. Luton Memorial Award given to the Most Outstanding Underclassman.

After the Boys presentations were given, Girls head coach Molly Kirby and assistant coach Nate McClaine handed out the Girls awards.

The Girls Track MVP went to Forest Madison Mills.

Jenn Ochs was named Girls Field MVP. Ochs was a participant in the javelin throw at the State Meet, the last two years.

Julie Kenneson won the Coaches Award.

The coaches presented letters and pins to the athletes who earned them this season. Among those given special thanks by the coaches were, Booster President, Nancy Mills and the Boosters, the parents, athletic trainer Devin Skinner and Junior High Coaches Keith Murtha and Bill Grove.

The Boys and Girls coaches shared information and stats on their teams’ season and pointed out many of the athletes’ accomplishments.

The athletes presented the coaches with gifts.
