Rotary Downs Lions In C.A.L.L. Baseball Action (05/27/15)

Rotary downed Lions 9-4, on Saturday, May 23rd, in Clarion Area Little League Baseball action. Rotary Manager, Bill Smith shares this Recap:

Cole Slaugenhaup reached base to lead off the first inning. A hit by Corbin Coulson, put runners on first and second for the Lions. Pitcher, Cal German then struck out the next batter. Ryan Alston then reached on an error, which allowed Slaugenhaup and Coulson to score. German struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

German started off the bottom of the first by reaching on an error. A double by Brady Fowkes drove in German for Rotary’s first run. Tommy Smith then singled to drive in Fowkes. Slaugenhaup struck out the next two of the four last batters to end the inning.

German struck out three of the five batters he faced, to keep the Lions scoreless in the second. Good defense by the Lions kept the score tied 2-2.

Top of the third, Rotary retired the first three batters. In the bottom of the third, T. Smith reached on an error and was then driven in on a single by Alex Garduno to make the game 3-2. Slaugenhaup then struck out two of the last three batters to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, German and Fowkes combined to strike out the side. Jake Smith led Rotary off by reaching on an error. Hayden Siegel reached with a walk, and Cal German tripled to bring the two runs in. Heads- up base running by German, allowed him to score on the same play. Walks by Fowkes and T. Smith and hit batter Garduno loaded the bases for Rotary. A wild pitch allowed Fowkes to score from third to end the four-run fourth for Rotary making the score 7-2.

Aidan Quinn led off the fifth with a base hit, followed by a walk by Slaugenhaup. Coulson grounded out, advancing the runners to second and third. Noah DiTullio then walked to load the bases. A bad throw on attempted double play allowed Quinn and Slaugenhaup to score. Alston was thrown out at home to end the inning.

Rotary came right back in the fifth with hits by Siegel and German and were driven in by a double from Fowkes. Pitcher Skylor Pastor then struck out two batters to end the fifth inning with a score of 9-4.

Cole Wrhen hit a single in the top of the sixth; however, Fowkes struck out the other three batters he faced to end the game.
