SMI Records Three Victories In C.A.L.L. Baseball Action (05/29/15)

SMI 8 – DELTA BUILDERS 4

SMI downed Delta Builders 8-4 on Wednesday (May 8th). SMI Manager Eric Simko provided this recap.

In the top of the first Delta pitcher Ryan Hummel retired the first three SMI batters with a ground ball put out and two fly outs. Hayden Callen took the mound for SMI and struck out two prior to giving up a single to Ethan Burford. Burford was then thrown out by SMI catcher Connor Kromer while attempting to steal second. (0-0)

In the top of the second Jack Callen reached base on balls and stole second and third. He stole home on a passed ball. Hummel got a put out and a strike out; the third out was added when an SMI batter was thrown out stealing. In the bottom of the second H. Callen/SMI recorded a put out and two strikeouts. (1-0 SMI)In the top of the third, after the first SMI batter had been retired, Christian Simko and Hayden Callen singled. After stealing third Simko scored on a passed ball at home and Callen attempted to follow and was tagged out at home. Delta ended the half inning on a put out. In the bottom of the third H. Callen/SMI again recorded a put out and two strikeouts. (2-0 SMI)

In the top of the fourth Ethan Burford came on to pitch for Delta. He walked one and struck out three SMI batters. In the bottom of the fourth Christian Simko came on to pitch for SMI. For Delta, Jordy Hesdon reached on an error, Ethan Burford doubled scoring Hesdon. Burford scored on a fielder’s choice. One Delta runner was tagged out stealing, one grounded out, and Simko ended the inning with a strikeout. (2-2)

In the top of the fifth with one out, Christian Simko doubled and stole third. H. Callen and Connor Kromer drew a walk; with bases loaded Gabriel Simko singled to right field scoring C. Simko and H. Callen. C. Kromer and G. Simko were then stranded as E. Burford struck out two SMI batters for Delta. In the bottom of the fifth C. Simko/SMI faced 4 Delta batters walking one, striking out one, and made two put outs. (4 -2 SMI)

In the top of the sixth Owen Kriebel walked; Jase Ferguson then took the mound for Delta. Ferguson struck out the first SMI batter he faced. Kriebel stole second and third, Timmy Craig walked and was put out at second on a fielder’s choice that saw C. Simko take first. Hayden Callen then hit a towering homerun over the centerfield bleachers, scoring three. C. Kromer singled, G. Simko singled, and Jack Callen singled scoring Kromer. Ferguson made the final out when he caught a ball hit to him.

In the bottom of the sixth Gabe Simko then came on to pitch for SMI. G. Simko gave up a single to E. Burford and J. Ferguson drew a walk. Simko then struck out the next batter; Michael Snyder then doubled scoring two. Simko struck out the next batter, and the third and final out of the game was recorded when O. Kriebel made a game ending catch in right field. (Final score 8-4 SMI)

SMI 9 – DELTA BUILDERS 5

SMI and Delta also hooked up in a game on Monday, May 18th, with SMI coming out on top by a 9-5 score. Coach Simko said that “…(it) was a hard fought well-played game on both sides.

Christian Simko and Hayden Callen shared mound duties for SMI and both also had big games at the plate. Simko had four hits, including three doubles and Callen hit two homers.

Brock Smith and Tanner Miller each added a single for SMI.

Breckin Rex had a double and a single for Delta. Ethan Burford and Ryan Hummel each had two hits, while Michael Snyder added a hit. Burford, Hummel and Snyder each had time on the mound.

SMI 9 – BURNS AND BURNS 3

SMI and Burns and Burns had three hits each, in their matchup on Friday, May 22nd.

Hayden Callen had two hits for the winners, including a double and Christian Simko added a single. The two also shared pitching duties.

Devon Lauer led Burns and Burns with two singles and Dawson Smail also had a hit.

Braydon Murray and Hunter Craddock pitched for Burns and Burns.
