Jon Kemmer Named Corpus Christi Hooks Player Of The Year (09/20/15)

This past Thursday (September 19th), the Corpus Christi Hooks named Jon Kemmer, a Clarion Area High School and Clarion Area Little League Alumni, the team’s Player of the Year.

Jon will also be recognized, for this outstanding achievement, on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet.

Jon had an outstanding season for the Hooks, the Houston Astros’ Double-A affiliate and member of the Texas League. Jon led the league in three categories. He won the batting title, with a .327 average.  Jon was the second-ever Hook to do so, following Drew Locke, who hit a league leading .338, in 2009.  He also had the top slugging percentage (.574) and on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) (.988), in the circuit.

Jon finished in the Texas League’s top ten in six other categories: runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBIs (65), total bases, and on-base percentage.

 

In addition to batting average, slugging percentage and OPS, Jon led the Hooks in hits (119), home runs (18), total bases (209) and on-base percentage (.414), as well as, tying the lead in triples (4). He finished in second in two categories: runs scored (67) and doubles (28).

Jon, who was drafted by the Astros, in the 21st round of the 2013 draft, was named the Texas League Player of the Month, for August. In twenty-seven games during that month he hit .376, with 22 runs scored, 13 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs and 19 RBIs. He had 13 walks and an OPS of 1.145, in August.

Jon was also named a 2015 Texas League Post-Season All-Star.
