Forest Mills led off the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first half. Keystone’s Jessica Cotton scored the first of her two goals, soon after, on a penalty kick. Keystone held tight to a 2-1 lead through most of the second half.

Kelly Beveridge took control of the ball deep in Clarion’s end, then played a great pass to Maddie Weaver in the center of the field. Weaver received the pass and played it wide left to Courtney Schonbachler, who took a couple touches, then crossed the ball in front of the goal, where Forest Mills put in her second of the night behind the Keystone goalie.

The Lady Cats turned up the intensity once overtime began, playing most of the period in Keystone’s end of the field. Late in the first overtime period Clarion’s Jenna Omecinski found Alexa Hannold in front of the Keystone net for the game winning goal.

CLARION 1 – FOREST AREA 0

The Clarion Area Lady Cats, fighting through continuous injury issues, played at Forest Area, Thursday (October 15th) with a short roster of 10 girls.

The teams traded scoring chances throughout the first half, with Clarion’s Wendy Beveridge and West Forest’s Sarah Shettler denying all chances resulting in a 0-0 score at halftime.

As the second half continued, the Lady Cats turned up the intensity and their efforts finally paid off when a half volley shot off the foot of Kelly Beveridge gave Clarion a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Fires came close to evening the score when a ball got past Wendy Beveridge, only to be cleared away inches from the goal line by an outstanding play from Gabby Weaver. Thanks to a relentless effort by all 10 Lady Cats, they left Forest Area with a 1-0 victory.

Clarion’s next match will be on Monday when they travel to Ridgway.
