Lady Cats Volleyball Team Holds Banquet (12/08/15)

The Clarion Area Lady Cats Volleyball Team held their 2015 Team Banquet on Sunday, December 6th, at the Moose Lodge.

Bridget Thornton opened the festivities with the invocation and blessing of the meal, then directed the team to pose for photos with cakes, which had team photos on them. Everyone then feasted on the meal, catered by Daddy’s Fifth Avenue.

After the meal, Coach Shari thanked her coaching staff: Erika Bevevino, Maddie Thornton and Samantha Beichner. She thanked the players and thanked their families for their support, as well as her own family and Clarion Area Athletic Director, Nancy Mills.

Coach Campbell then gave an overview of the season, which included another District Nine Class-A Title. She mentioned how the girls were willing to make changes throughout the season to insure success. She likened them to chameleons, for the various transformations the teams went through. Coach Campbell said that the team had their “best play against themselves in practices.” She mentioned that after the final game the seniors thanked the underclassmen for making it such a fine season.

Coach Campbell then introduced the team and gave various team and individual stats. Several individual stat and highlights include: Keanna Over – 128 kills and 172 digs, Second Team All-KSAC, First Team All-District;  Anna Reed – 201 points, 375 digs, First Team All-KSAC, District MVP; Johnnna Rapp – 140 points, 34 aces; Sophie Wolf – 86 kills, 18 blocks. Olivia Burns – 295 kills, 213 digs, 155 points; Gloria Kroh – assists, 29 blocks, 139 digs.

Coach Cathcart then took the platform and announced that she is retiring after 19 years with the program as a player, Junior High, JV and Assistant Varsity Coach. She said she is  taking time off to be a mother and fan. She thanked the girls and parents and said she may be back at a future time.

Coach Campbell tearfully thanked Coach Cathcart for her many years of dedication to the program.

Bridget Thornton then gave thanks to various individuals and presented Martha Campbell and Junior High players Ava Kiser, Brenna Campbell and Katlyn Constantino for their help at meets.

The players were then presented gifts. And the players then presented gifts to the coaches. Bridget Thornton then gave thanks to the other Booster Officers: President, Tracy Rapp;Secretary,Tracie Kriebel; and Treasurer, Beth McNamara.
