Basketball: Bobcat Boys Down Karns City, Girls Fall To Gremlins (01/21/16)

The homestanding Clarion Area Boys Basketball downed Karns City, 65-56, on Tuesday (January, 19th) while the Lady Cats fell at Karns City, 60-34, on Wednesday (January 20th).

BOYS GAMES

After trailing 1-0 the Bobcats reeled off twelve straight points, in a first quarter that was eventually punctuated by a three-point buzzer beater by Ceventh Lynch-Skunda that gave Clarion a 15-3 lead after one period. Leading 22-13, the Cats ended the second, with a 5-0 run, to take a 28-13 advantage in to halftime.

The Gremlins had a 15-12 scoring edge in the third, moving the score to Clarion 40 – Karns City 28 heading to the final stanza.

It was a scoring spree for both teams, in the fourth, as the Gremlins matched their point output from the first three periods, by bucketing twenty-eight points and the Bobcats netting twenty-five to set the 65-56 final.

The Bobcats had three players in double figures. Jonathan Smith had 16, including a slam dunk in the fourth, Lynch-Skunda scored 15, including 3 treys, and Cameron Craig had fourteen. Brendan Miller just missed double figures, finishing with nine points. Ty Burford had 5 points and Reed Anthony had four.

Chandler Turner led the Gremlins with fourteen points.

The Bobcat JVs dropped a close 44-42 decision. They trailed 7-4 after one, but came back and took an 18-16 lead into the half. The Gremlins led by one, 25-24 after three.

Spencer Miller led the Bobcats with 22 points and Tom Hearst added 10. Zack Bauer had four points, while Austin Hummell, Archer Mills and Drew Whren each had two.

Kepple led Karns City with twelve.

GIRLS GAME

Karns City jumped out to a 24-6 lead after one quarter and increased the lead to 42-18 going into the half. The second half scoring was fairly even, with the Lady Gremlins holding a slim 10-9 scoring edge in the third, moving the score to 52-27 after three and both teams notching seven points in the fourth, to set the 60-34 final.

Gloria Kroh led the Lady Cats with nine points. Kelly Beveridge and Anna Reed scored seven points each. Wendy Beveridge had 6 points and Alexis Constantino added five. LeeAnn Gibson had 21 points for the Gremlins, Emily Hedegus had 16 and Alyssa Bibson had eleven.

The Bobcat Boys will travel to Keystone on Friday (January 22nd), with the Lady Cats hosting Keystone that same night.
