Basketball: Bobcat Boys Down Redbank, Fall To Union; Lady Cats Drop Games To Both Schools (01/16/16)

The Clarion Area Boys and Girls Basketball Teams hosted Redbank Valley on Wednesday (January 13th) and then traveled to Union on Thursday (January 14th).

The Bobcat Boys split their contests, defeating Redbank Valley 74-58, but falling to Union 63-45. The Lady Cats fell to Redbank Valley 51-40 and 49-34 to Union.

Clarion vs Redbank (Boys)

Jonathan Smith led the Bobcats with 27 points, including eight each in the first and third quarter. The Cats came out strong to take a 25-11 lead after one quarter.

Smith opened the second quarter scoring with a crowd pleasing, slam dunk. Clarion  extended the lead to 38-17 at the half and held a 50-31 lead going into the fourth quarter.

With the huge lead, the Cats rested most of their starters for a large part of the last stanza, giving the younger kids some quality court time. The fourth was a scoring fest, with the Bulldogs scoring 27 points and the Cats netting 24, to set the 74-58 final.

Brendan Miller and Ty Burford both had big games on the boards for the Cats. Burford and Ceventh Lynch-Skunda had ten points each for the Cats.

Sam Heeter led the Bulldogs with fourty-two points.

The Boys JVs downed Redbank Valley 45-37. The Cats led 15-8 after one and 23-14 at the half, but the Bulldogs came back to lead 30-29 after three.

Austin Hummell and Spencer Miller led Clarion with ten points each.

Clarion vs Redbank Valley (Girls)

Redbank Valley jumped out to a 10-7 lead after one quarter, a 21-13 lead at the half and a 35-27 lead after three, en-route to the 51-40 win.

Gloria Kroh and Kelly Beveridge each scored eleven points to lead the Lady Cats. Anna Reed had nine points.

Broook Hinderliter had 18 points, Macy King scored 13 and Becca Dougherty had 12 for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Girls JVs defeated Redbank Valley40-29. The Bulldogs led 5-3 after one, but the Cats came back to take a 23-11 lead at the half. The score was 27-17, Clarion after three.

Clarion vs Union (Boys)

Lynch-Skunda had 17 points and Burford had ten, in a losing effort at Rimersburg.

The Cats led 17-16 after one, but the Knights held a 31-25 lead at the half. Union’s lead was 46-34 after three.

Cole Morris led Union with twenty-five points.

Clarion vs Union (Girls)

Maddie Weaver and Reed had seven points each and Wendy Beveridge had six points For the Lady Cats. . Lexey Shick had 15 and Shaley Shick had fourteen to lead the Damsels.

The Lady Cats will play at DuBois Central Catholic on Monday (January 18th), while the Bobcat Boys will host Karns City on Tuesday (January 19th).
