Basketball: Bobcats And Lady Cats Both Victorious Against Venango Catholic (01/28/16)

BOYS: CLARION 91 – VENANGO CATHOLIC 81

Clarion had five players, led by Jon Smith’s 27 points, score in double-figures in the Bobcats 91-81 home victory over Venango Catholic on Wednesday (January 27th).

Also scoring in double-figures were Cameron Craig with 14, Ty Burford with 13, Brendan Miller with 12 and Reed Anthony with eleven. Ceventh Lynch-Skunda just missed double-figures with nine points. Ryan Anthony had 3 points and Luke Nellis scored two points, in the high scoring affair.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 23-11 lead, after one. A 16-14 Vikings advantage in the second, moved the halftime score to 37-27, Clarion.

The third quarter saw both teams combine for 49 points, with VC scoring 28 and Clarion scoring 21. Clarion now led by only three points, 58-55 heading to the fourth. The fourth quarter saw the teams combining for 59 points, with Clarion holding a 33-26 advantage, to set the 91-81 final.

Brady Kingston led the Venango Catholic with 27 points. Also scoring in double-figures for the Vikings were, Ian Hidinger with 19 and Noah Puleo with thirteen.

The Bobcats will travel to Cranberry on Friday (January 29th).

 

GIRLS: CLARION 41 – VENANGO CATHOLIC 27

Kelly Beveridge and Anna Reed combined for 28 of Clarion’s 41 points, to lead the visiting Lady Cats to a 41-27 victory over the Venango Catholic Lady Vikings on Tuesday (January 26th). Beveridge had 18 points and Reed added ten.

The score was tied 11-all, after one and Venango Catholic held a slim 21-19 lead at the half. But an 11-1 Clarion advantage, in the third, gave the Cats 30 – 22 lead heading into the final frame. The Cats outscored the Vikings 11-4 in the fourth to set the final.

Gloria Kroh contributed 7 points for Clarion, Maddie Weaver had 4 and Jenna Beichner scored two points.

Ava Homan led Venango Catholic with eighteen points.

The 9-8, Lady Cats will will host Cranberry on Friday (January 29th).
