Basketball: Boys Junior High B-Team Wins Season Opener (01/21/16)

(By Coach Jason Craig)

On Tuesday, January 19th, the Jr. High Boys Basketball team tipped off their season by traveling to Union to take on the Golden Knights. The young Bobcats on the B-Team never trailed in the game and won by a score of 29 – 17.

Clarion won the first quarter 7 – 5 on a 3-pointer by Cal German and baskets by Tyler Schmader and Hunter Craddock. The boys started to find a rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the Knights 11 – 4. Craddock added 4 more points and Beau Verdill had 2. It was the hot hand of Mitch Geiger that lead the way in the quarter by hitting 2 jump shots, one of which was from beyond the arc and we went into halftime with an 18 – 9 lead.

German got back into the scoring column in the third quarter with 4 points, but the Bobcats would lose the quarter 6 – 4. Clarion still maintained a 22 – 15 lead heading to the final stanza. Geiger drained another 3 point bomb in the final quarter, while Schmader and Craddock each added 2 points to set the final score at 29 – 17.

Geiger and Craddock were top scorers for the Bobcats with 8 points each. German added 7, Schmader had 4 and Verdill rounded out the scoring with 2 points. For the Golden Knights, Vereb had a game high 9 points followed by Vogel with 4.

I thought it was a good game for our first one of the season. There are definitely a few areas we need to clean up, but overall I was pleased with the performance.

(Thanks to Coach Craig for this article. Good Job, Bobcats!!!!)
