Basketball Tournaments: Bobcats Second At Punxy, Lady Cats Third At Kane (01/01/15)

Both the Clarion Area Boys and Girls Basketball Teams took part in Holiday Tournaments this past Tuesday and Wednesday (December 28th and 29th), with the Bobcats participating in the Carl A. Truance Tournament at Punxsutawney and the Lady Cats competing in the Kane Tournament.

The Bobcat Boys were runners-up after falling to host Punxsutawney, 55-46, in the Championship game. The Cats downed Saegertown 60-54 in their opening round game. The Lady Cats finished in third place. They fell to host Kane 52-40 in the opening round, but rebounded to defeat Eisenhower 42-30, in the Consolation game.

Jonathan Smith and Cameron Craig were named All-Stars in the Punxsutawney Tournament. This is Cameron’s second straight year to be so named. Anna Reed was named an All-Star in the Kane Tournament. Wendy Beveridge was named a Junior Varsity All-Star at Kane.

Punxsutawney Boys Tournament

Championship Game: Punxsutawney 55 -Clarion 46

Jonathan Smith led the Cats with 15 points, followed by Ceventh Lynch-Skunda’s 13 and Cameron Craig’s eleven. Miller had 4 points and Reed Anthony scored three.

Punxsy led 17-13 after one and 29-28 at the half. The Chucks held a 41-36 lead after three.

Opening Round Game: Clarion 60 – Saegertown 54

Smith was the Bobcats leading scorer, with 16 points, while pulling in 11 rebounds and recording four assists. Ty Burford scored 12 points and Cameron Craig followed with ten. Brendan Miller and Anthony each had seven. Lynch Skunda chipped in with 6 points and Spencer Miller had two.

The Bobcats led 19-12 after one and 27-23 at halftime but trailed by one 44-43 after three.

 

Kane Girls Tournament

Consolation Game: Clarion 42 – Eisenhower 30

Anna Reed led the Lady Cats with a game high 15 points. She also had three steals. Kelly Beveridge also reached double figures with 11 points to go along with three steals. Beveridge had three steals. Gloria Kroh had 6 points and ten rebounds. Wendy Beveridge had 4 points and Alexis Constantino and Maya Thornton each had two.

The Lady Cats were down 18-8 after one, but came back to lead 21-19 at the half. Clarion held a ten-point, 34-24 lead after three quarters.

Opening Round Game: Kane 52 – Clarion 40

Kelly Beveridge had nine points on three 3-pointers to lead Clarion, while Wendy followed with six. Reed and Kroh contributed 5 points each, while Maddie Weaver and Alexis Constantino each had four points. Sophie Wolf and Jenna Beichner chipped in with two points each. Thornton scored one point.
