Jon Kemmer Named To Astros Spring Training Roster (01/03/15)

With 2016 barely begun, Clarion Area and Clarion Little League alum Jon Kemmer has something to be really excited about. On Friday, New Year’s Day, the Houston Astros announced their non-roster invitees to Spring Training and Jon is among those players invited.

Jon, a leader on the Astros’ Double-A affiliate Corpus Christi Hooks’ in 2015, is one of nineteen non-roster invitees to participate for the Astros in the Grapefruit League, with pitchers and catchers reporting to the Osceola County Stadium Training Facility, in Kissimmee, Florida, on February 18th and position players reporting four days later, on February 22nd. Jon is one of only four non-roster outfielders invited.

The non-roster invitees include twelve position players and seven pitchers. The Astros’ complete spring contingent includes fifty-seven players, including twenty-nine position players.

Jon was the Hooks’ Player of the Year last season and was named a Texas League Post-Season All-Star.

Some of the highlights of Jon’s outstanding season for the Hooks included leading the Texas League in three categories. He won the batting title, with a .327 average.  He also had the top slugging percentage (.574) and on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) (.988), in the circuit.

Jon finished in the Texas League’s top ten in six other categories: runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBIs (65), total bases, and on-base percentage.

In addition to batting average, slugging percentage and OPS, Jon led the Hooks in hits (119), home runs (18), total bases (209) and on-base percentage (.414), as well as, tying the lead in triples (4). He finished in second in two categories: runs scored (67) and doubles (28).

This is a fantastic opportunity for this young man, who has been a great example both on the field and off. His character, attitude and work ethic are something for young local players to emulate and follow.

(CONGRATULATIONS JON!!!! HOPE TO SEE YOU ON THE OPENING DAY ROSTER!!!! YOU MAKE THIS COMMUNITY PROUD!!!!)
