Basketball Booster Clubs Hold Free Throw Contest (02/06/16)

The Clarion Area Boys and Girls Basketball Booster Clubs sponsored a Free Throw Tournament for 5th and 6th grade students recently. A total of sixty-five students, thirty boys and thirty-five girls, competed in the tournament, which began at Clarion Area Elementary School.

Eight finalists, two boys and two girls from each grade, then competed during halftime of a Varsity game. The Boys Final was held at halftime of the Venango Catholic game on Wednesday, January 27th and the Girls Final was held at halftime of the Cranberry game on Friday, January 29th.

Each of the finalists won a Clarion Bobcat T-Shirt, with the First Place winners also winning an autographed basketball. The Boys winners’ basketballs were signed by the Varsity Boys Team and the Girls winners’ basketballs were autographed by the Varsity Girls Team. The second place finishers also received a pizza coupon.

The Boys finalists for 5th grade were Aiden Quinn and Reece Geiger. The Boys 6th grade finalists were Bailee Verdill and Mason Songer. For the Girls, Allison Acey and Grace Ochs were finalists for the 5th grade, while Rebekah Ketner and Riley Ochs represented the 6th grade.

This years’ Champions were, Aidan Quinn for the 6th grade boys, Bailee Verdill for the 5th grade boys, Rebekah Ketner for the sixth grade girls and Allison Acey for the fifth grade girls.

The Boys and Girls Basketball Boosters purchased the basketballs.
