Clarion County YMCA Riversharks Earn Top Finishes at Championships

Thirty-two swimmers from the Clarion County YMCA Riversharks swim team participated in the CENKEY (Central-Keystone) Championships on February 13-14, 2016 at Hollidaysburg High School.

Twelve teams and 555 swimmers participated in the event to round out the regular YMCA swim season. The event was highly competitive, with top seeded swimmers from State College, Lock Haven, Clearfield, St. Mary’s, East Lycoming, Jersey Shore, Juniata Valley, Hollidaysburg, Bellefonte, Dubois, Brookville and Clarion, all competing for top spots.

For the 10 and under boys, Patrick Young and Brayden Murray had a great meet and earned top finishes in individual events.

Patrick Young earned first place finishes in the 200 yard Freestyle, 100 yard Freestyle and 50 yard Freestyle, and a second place finish in the 50 yard Butterfly. Brayden Murray earned first place finishes in the 50 yard Breaststroke and 100 yard Breaststroke, and a third place finish in the 50 yard Backstroke.

For the 15-18 year old boys, Mason Burns earned a third place finish in the 200 yard Breaststroke.
The 9-10 year old relay team of Jocalyn Henry, Natalie Kahle, Isabella Texter, and Maya Wilshire earned a 3rd place for their finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Individuals placing in the top 12 and earning points for the Riversharks were: Alayna Murray, Jenna Dunn, Kevin Young, Jonas Wilshire, Acacia Felmlee, Avery Faller, Joey Spence, Natalie Kahle, Parker Boyden, Mason Burns, Marshall Powers, Adam Bettwy, Brayden Murray, Jocalyn Henry, Maya Wilshire, Lydia Seaton, Nathaniel Lerch, and Kyle Bettwy.

Brianna Warner, Bethany Cater, Jacob Lott, William Murray, Titus Felmlee, Jake Nowaczyk, Gwynn Manno, Isabella Texter and Gabriella Texter also participated and had note-worthy individual finishes.
The Championship meet was the final meet of the regular YMCA winter swim season. Swimmers who have qualified will move on to the Pennsylvania West District Meet at Penn State University on March 12-13, 2016.

The Clarion County YMCA Riversharks are part of the CENKEY Swim League. Practices and competitions run October through March.
