Lady Cats Down Johnsonburg In D-9 Basketball Opener (02/18/16)

The Clarion Area Girls Basketball Team downed homestanding Johnsonburg 42-39, last night (Wednesday, February 17th), in their District Nine Class-A opening round game.

The Lady Cats were down 14-8 after one. They closed the gap trailed by just a point, 20-19 at the half. With a three-point, 9-6 advantage, in the third quarter, Clarion held a 28-26 lead heading to the final frame.

The Lady Rams came back and held a six-point lead late in the game. But the Bobcats scored eight straight points, on two buckets by Anna Reed, one by Kelly Beveridge and two free throws by Gloria Kroh.

Alexis Constantino and Reed hit double-figures, with eleven and ten points respectively, to lead the Cats.

Kelly Beveridge had 7 points, Kroh had 6, Sophie Wolf, Maddie Weaver, Wendy Beveridge and Maya Thornton each contributed a pair of points. Kroh had ten rebounds in the game.

Cassidy King led Johnsonburg with ten points.

The Lady Cats and Bobcats Boys will each face teams from Coudersport, in a quarterfinal double-header at Kane High School, on Friday (February 19th). The Girls game will start at 6:00PM with the Boys to follow at 7:30PM.
