Owen Reinsel And Derek Smail Win Area V Wrestling Titles, Mason Gourley Finishes Second; Trio Moves On To States (03/26/16)

Three Clarion wrestlers have qualified and will be representing Area V in the 2016 PA Youth Junior Wrestling State Tournament in Erie on Friday and Saturday, April 1st and 2nd.

Owen Reinsel , an eleven year old, sixth grader from Clarion-Limestone Elementary is the Area V 11-12, 75 pound Champion. He is the son of Dave and Trudy Reinsel of Fairmont City. This is Owen’s fourth straight trip to the State Tournament and let’s cheer him to make it a charm.

Derek (DK) Smail, an eight year old, third grader from Clarion Elementary,won the 8 and under, 110 pound class Championship. He is the son of David and Jami Smail of Shippenville. This will be DK’s second straight trip to the tournament. He competed last year at 8and under, 90 lbs.

Mason Gourley, an eight year old, third grader from Clarion Elementary, is the son of Braun and Holly Gourley of Clarion. This is his first trip to States. He did a great job finishing the True 2nd Place at Areas, in the 8 and under, 75 pound class . He was victorious after a hard-nosed match with Jacob Shilling of Redbank Valley.

If you know this great young men, or see them out and about, let them know how proud you are of them and their accomplishments.

At the start of JO season they have set (4) Goals: #1 – Make it to States; #2 – Win 1st Match; #3 – Make it to Day 2; #4 – Make it to the podium

These are not unrealistic goals for these hard working kids, they already have completed #1, which in itself is a great accomplishment. Keep working hard boys!!!!

I want to thank several other wrestlers that had competed in the Junior Olympics season – Jake Smith, Gavin Hannold, Noah Naser, Brodie Pack, Logan Powell and Hayden Weber.

Special thanks go to Hayden Hindman, Logan Powell, Noah Naser and Dawson Smail who have continued on, helping these State Qualifiers in getting ready and mat time.
