Wrestling: Zach Sintobin Claims Second Straight District Crown, Colton Rapp Takes Third, Mike LeFay Finishes Fourth (03/02/16)

Clarion Area senior, Zach Sintobin claimed his second straight District Nine Class-AA, 195 pound wrestling championship, on Saturday (February 27th) at Clearfield Area High School. Two other Bobcats emerged from the two day event (Friday and Saturday) as place winners, sophomore Colton Rapp, who was third at 145 and junior Mike LeFay who captured fourth place at 170.

By virtue of their finishes, all three will now take part in the Northwest Regional, which will be held this Friday and Saturday (March 4th and 5th) at Sharon High School. Sintobin’s, ranked 7th in the state, will be making his fourth straight trip to regionals. This will be Rapp’s second straight trip and LeFay’s first.

Sintobin opened with aby pinning Nick Dibble of Smethport, in the quarterfinals. He then won a 6-1 decision over Coudersport’s Joe Lawton. He finished the tournament by pinning Brookville’s Dane Clever in the Championship bout.

Rapp pinned William Russell of Oswayo Valley in the preliminaries. He fell to Coudersport’s Julian Smith in the quarterfinals. Rapp pinned Curwensville’s Mason Lancaster in the second-round consolations and decisioned Kane’s Aiden Hulings 5-3, in the third round consolations. After pinning Keystone’s Nick Bauchman in the consolation semifinals, Rapp downed Jason Kallenborn of Port Allegany 3-1 in the consolation finals.

LeFay lost to Brockway’s Michael Martino 9-4 in the quarterfinals. He defeated Jesse York, from Cranberry  6-2 in the third round consolations then posted a 9-5 decision over Coudersport’s Isaac Wright. LeFay injury defaulted, for the consolation finals bout as a precaution.

Alexander Burkhart (182) and Thomas Wurster (220) each finished the tournament with 3-2 records. Alex Struble (113), Ryley McMaster (126) and Sterling Conner (132) all finished with 2-2 records. Login Dehner (106) and Caleb Bailey (138) finished with 1-2 records. John McSwain (152) and Prince Brooks (160) also competed.

Clarion finished fifth in the team standings, behind Brookville, Brockway, Ridgway and Port Allegheny.
