Diamond Update: Lady Cats And Bobcats Finish Regular Season, In Winning Fashion, Entering Playoffs (05/21/16)

The Clarion Area Baseball and Softball Teams completed their regular seasons, this week and will now enter the District Nine Class A Playoffs.

Both teams played home games on Monday (May 16th), with the Lady Cats downing Johnsonburg and the Bobcats defeating Brookville. Monday’s game was the regular season finale for the Lady Cats. The Bobcat Baseball Team would also defeat North Clarion on Wednesday (May 18th) and Brockway on Thursday (May 19th).

MONDAY – CLARION SOFTBALL VS JOHNSONBURG

The Lady Cats downed the Lady Hubbers 4-3, in eight innings, in Clarion’s last regular season game.

Sydney Kiser went 3 for 3 and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Getting two hits for the Cats were Keanna Over, Cora Zerfoss and Alexis Constantino. MacKenzie Ditullio added a hit.

Sadie Rudesyle picked up the win, Clarion’s seventh straight, striking out seven Hubber batters.

The Lady Cats, now 13-7, will host Curwensville, at 4:30PM, on Monday (May 23rd), at Paul A. Weaver Park.

MONDAY – CLARION BASEBALL VS BROOKVILLE

The Bobcats downed the visiting Raiders 9-7. Brookville scored three runs in the first. Clarion answered with three in the third. The Raiders scored one in the fourth to regain the lead, at 4-3. But the Bobcats got four runs in the bottom of the inning and two in the fifth, to lead 9-4. Brookville set the 9-7 final with three runs in the seventh.

Caleb Wilson led the Cats, with three hits. Leo Aiello and Cam Craig had two hits apiece, while Adrian Weber and Reed Anthony both had singles.

WEDNESDAY – CLARION BASEBALL VS NORTH CLARION

The homestanding Bobcats defeated the Wolves  11-3. Clarion scored one in the first and three in the third. The Wolves closed the gap to 5-1, with a run in the top of the fourth. But the Cats blew the game open, with six runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Brendan Miller’s inside-the-park grand slam. The Wolves closed out the scoring with two runs in the fifth.

Cameron Craig and Leo Aiello each had a pair of singles and an RBI. Adrian Weber and Reed Anthony each had a single.

THURSDAY – CLARION BASEBALL VS BROCKWAY

The Bobcats closed out the regular season, at 15-3, with a 10-0, five inning win at Brockway. The Cats scored five in the first, one in the third and four in the fifth. Leo Aiello, Reed Anthony and Dominic Fleming each had two hits. Caleb Wilson, Ryan Anthony and Luke Nellis each contributed a hit.

Reeed Anthony was the winning pitcher, going four innings and allowing just one hit.

The Bobcats, who have a first round bye in the District Nine Playoffs, will host Coudersport in the second round, on Thursday (May26th) at 4:30PM.
