Keanna Over, Anna Reed And Maya Thornton Named To 2016 Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association Class-A All-State Team (07/09/16)

The Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association recently announced their 2016 All-State Teams and the District Nine Class-A second place Clarion Area Lady Bobcats had three players named.

Senior Keanna Over made the Class-A Second Team at shortstop, senior Anna Reed was named Honorable Mention at second base and sophomore Maya Thornton was given a nod as an Honorable Mention in the outfield.

Keanna had a great senior campaign, batting .388, with an on base percentage of .473. She had 31 hits in 81 at bats, including 5 doubles and a pair of triples. Keanna drove in 14 runs, scored 26 times and was walked Thirteen times.

Anna’s superb senior season included a .354 batting average and .400 on base percentage. She had 29 hits, including 2 home runs, 4 triples and 6 doubles in 82 at bats. Anna had 20 RBIs and scored 19 runs. She walked seven times.

In an outstanding sophomore year, Maya hit .391, with 27 hits in 69 at bats. She had two home runs, a triple and four doubles. Maya drove in 11 runs and scored 21 times.

Clarion Area Manager Dan Shofestall had this to say about his All-State trio, “Its very exciting to have three of our girls named to the Pennsylvania Class A Softball All-State Team. There are a lot of great softball players in the state of Pennsylvania and to be named to an All-State Team is something very special.

“It is a well deserved honor for Keanna, Anna and Maya. I congratulate them on receiving this prestigious award. I also believe it is a recognition and reflection of Clarion Softball and all of the girls and coaches on the team and how far we have come in a few short years.”

District Nine Class-A Champion DuBois Central Catholic’s Jordy Frank, a junior catcher, was named the Class-A Player of the Year.

Four other DCC players made the Class-A First Team: Riley Assalone at pitcher, Ashley Wruble at second base, Stephanie Rossi at third base and Macey Himes in the outfield.

Moniteau which made it to the PIAA Class-AA Championship Game had three Class-AA First Team selections: pitcher Kennedy DeMatteis, shortstop Cortney Claypool and outfielder Gabby Stewart. The Warriors also had a Second Team selection, first baseman Sarah Hull and an Honorable Mention selection, catcher Kristina DeMatteis.
