CLARION VS FOREST AREA

The Clarion Area Lady Cats rebounded from a rough start to the season with a 4-1 win at West Forest on Tuesday (September 13th) afternoon. Alexa Kriebel led the Clarion attack with an early breakaway goal. The Lady Fires soon answered with a goal and the score remained even through the remainder of the first half. As the Lady Cats fought through the 2nd half, their decision making and passing accuracy improved. Alexa Kriebel got behind the Lady Fires’ defense several times, collecting an additional 2 goals and earning her first hat trick. Forest Mills added another goal with a well placed shot over the goalkeeper’s head from 21 yards out. Courtney Schonbachler, Lauren Troutman, and Alexa Hannold provided offensive support for the Clarion attack.

The Clarion defense steadily improved as the game wore on, led by goalkeeper Wendy Beveridge.

SUMMARY FROM OPENING WEEK

CLARION VS BROCKWAY

The Clarion Ladycats soccer team battled through a challenging first week of their 2016/17 season. They jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their game at Brockway, on Tuesday (September 6th), when Alexa Kriebel scored her first goal as a Ladycat, but were unable to hold back a speedy Lady Rover attack, resulting in a 5-1 defeat.

CLARION VS KARNS CITY

The team traveled to District 9 champion Karns City, on Wednesday (September 7th) to face the Lady Gremlins. The Karns City squad got out to a 4 goal lead before the game was delayed due to weather concerns. Once the game resumed, the Clarion girls kept fighting against a very strong Karns City team and ended up on the losing end of a 6-1 game. Forest Mills registered the lone goal for Clarion.

CLARION VS ST. MARYS

On Friday evening (September 9th), the Ladycats hosted AAA St Marys and once again found themselves ahead by a goal in the first half when freshman Lauren Troutman drilled a shot past the St Mary’s goalkeeper.

The Lady Crusaders kept pressure on the Ladycat defense and found themselves with a 3-1 lead late in the game. The Ladycat squad kept fighting through the entire match and Alexa Kriebel’s 2nd goal of the season pulled the girls to within one. Unfortunately, time ran out and the girls were on the losing end of a 3-2 defeat. Although the girls started 0-3 there are plenty of positives noticed by the coaching staff. Sophomore goalkeeper Wendy Beveridge has recorded nearly 80 saves through 3 games, including a penalty kick save against St Marys on Friday, continuing her excellent form from last season.

The Ladycats have also had 4 goals from 3 different players, 2 of which are new to the team.

The team  hosts Keystone on Thursday (September 14th), at 6:30PM and will play 3 games on Saturday in the 2016 DuBois Central Catholic/Nini Manfredo tournament.
