Junior High Football: Bobcats Play Hard, But Fall To Lions (10/03/16)

Clarion vs. Clarion-Limestone Junior High football game was held on Wednesday, September 28th, at the C-L Field. Clarion received the opening kickoff and was unsuccessful on first series.

The Lions started on the 50 yard line with two big runs from number 24 and number 3. Number 3 scored at 5:13 of the 1st quarter and 2 point attempt was unsuccessful. The Bobcat’s second series moved the chains twice on Cal German to Colton Zacherl passes, including a successful 4th and long, but the Bobcats were not able to score and C-L took over on downs to end the first quarter.

The second quarter saw number three for the Lions score again at 3:16, but Clarion broke up the 2 point attempt to bring the score to 12-0. Clarion intercepted a C-L pass at the 3:06 mark, but turned the ball over on downs. C-L brought the score to 18-0 with number 2 hitting pay dirt at the 1:19 mark of the period. The score remained 18-0 at the half.

Clarion’s second half kickoff was received by C-L lineman Mitch Knepp and Knepp returned the ball to the 15 yard line, but the Lions were unable to convert the great return to points and Clarion took over on downs at the 5:07 mark of the 3rd. Both teams had good field possession, but were not able to put more points on the board to end the third.

The fourth quarter saw Cal German throwing completions to Zacherl and Ethan Burford and Clarion did get to the end zone on a quarterback run by German, with 2:33 left in the quarter. Burford caught a pass from German for the two point conversion to bring score to 18-8.

C-L took over on the 45 yard line and number 3 had a 55 yard TD run at 2:13 left in the 4th quarter. Final score was 26-8 win for the homestanding Lions.
