Bobcat Grapplers Drop Close Match To Wolves (01/14/17)

The Clarion Bobcat Wrestling Squad hosted the Kane Wolves, on Wednesday (January 11th) and dropped a close, hard fought match 30-27.

Ben Smith opened the match with a 7-1 win at 195, followed by Thomas Wurster’s first period pin at 220, to give the Cats an early 9-0 lead.

Kane won the next four bouts. Matt Colman dropped a 5-3 decision, at heavyweight. Then Logan Dehner took his opponent into overtime, tied 2-2 before giving up a reversal, to fall 4-2, at 106. After a forfeit win by Kane, Frank Weber dropped a two point, 7-5 decision at 132 giving Kane a 15-9 lead. Clarion lost the three contested bouts in the span by a total of just six points.

Ryley McMaster broke the Kane run, at 138. Leading 6-0, in the third, he pinned his opponent to knot the score at 15-all.

Kane took the lead for good, with Sterling Conner losing by fall at 145, giving the Wolves a 21-15 lead. Mike LeFay lost by fall at 152 and Kane’s lead was now 27-15.

Colton Rapp won his match at 160, with a second period fall cutting Kane’s lead to 27-21. But Seth Nellis dropped a 6-2 decision at 170 and the Wolves were up by 9 points at 30-21.

Colt Stimmell closed the match on a positive note for the Cats, with a pin at 1:27 of the first, setting the 30-27 final.

The Bobcats competed in the Falconer Tournament, Friday and Saturday.
