Former Bobcat Baseball Standout Tanner Klein Named To NCBWA Preseason All-Atlantic Region Team

Former Clarion Area Bobcat baseball standout Tanner Klein, a senior third baseman and right handed pitcher for the Mansfield University Mountaineers, has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-Atlantic Region Team.

Klein who was named to the First Team at third base, had an outstanding junior campaign. He started 45 games at third base for the Mountaineers. Offensively, Klein hit for .344, with 53 hits in 154 at bats. He led the team with 34 RBIs and a .506 slugging percentage. He was second in three categories: hits, doubles (11) and home runs (4). His batting average ranked third on the team.  Klein had 14 games with multiple hits. He had three hits in five of those games.

Defensively Klein had an excellent .925 fielding percentage, with 21 putouts and 65 assists. He didn’t allow a hit or run in 1.2 innings of relief.

At Clarion, Klein played baseball, football and basketball. He was a Second Team All-State Pitcher in 2013. He was also an Honorable Mention All-State punter in 2012.
