Jon Kemmer Invited To Astros Spring Training For Second Straight Year (01/29/17)

The Houston Astros recently announced their spring training rosters and for the second year in a row, Clarion Area Bobcat and Clarion Little League player Jon Kemmer is among the non-roster invitees.

The 26 year old, Kemmer, entering his fifth year of professional baseball is one of 4 outfielders among the 18 non-roster invitees. There are 7 pitchers, 3 catchers and three infielders in the group.

The Astros also signed three minor league free agents, who also have invitations to spring training. Houston’s total spring training roster of 58 players includes 28 pitchers and thirty position players.

The 6′ 2″ 230LB Kemmer played for the Astros’ Triple-A affiliate Fresno Grizzlies, in 2016. He batted .265 (108 hits in 407 at bats) in 120 games, with 18 home runs, 24 doubles, 4 triples and 69 RBIs. He was a 21st round pick by the Astros in 2013.

Pitchers and catchers will report to the Astros camp on Monday, February 13th and position players report on Thursday, February 17th.

Kemmer and the other players will get to enjoy a brand new spring training facility Ball Park of the Palm Beaches, in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Astros will share the facility with the Washington Nationals.

The Astros will open their spring training schedule with three road games, beginning against the Tigers on Saturday, February 25th, followed by the Braves on Sunday the 26th and the Mets on Monday the 27th.

The Astros and Nats will inaugurate the 6500 seat Ball Park of the Palm Beaches, in each club’s  Grapefruit League  home opener and Washington’s spring training opener on Tuesday, February 28th. The two teams will face each other seven times at the park, during spring training.

Houston will host the Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park on Opening Day, Monday, April 3rd, at 7:10PM against the Seattle Mariners.
