Bobcat Junior High B-Team Goes 4-1 In Recent Stretch (02/24/17)

Clarion Junior High Boys B-Team Summary (By Coach Jason Craig)

Clarion vs Union

On Monday, February 13th, the Junior High boys B-Team hosted the Union Knights and came out with a hard fought 22 – 19 victory.

The Bobcats ran out to an early 7 – 4 lead after the first quarter behind 4 points from Christian Simko and 3 by Chase Kriebel. The pair would continue scoring in the second quarter, each netting 2 points as the Bobcats went into halftime leading 11 – 7.

The teams would tie the third with 5 points each, but Clarion held on to a 16 – 12 lead heading into the fourth. Ryan Alston and Cam Lapinto had baskets in the period and Aidan Quinn made a free throw.

The final period saw Union go to the free throw line 14 times (20 times for the entire game) and they were able to win the frame 7 – 6. However, Clarion picked up the 22 – 19 win. Quinn, Lapinto and Simko all scored for Clarion.

Scoring for the Bobcats: Simko (8), Kriebel (5), Lapinto (4), Quinn (3), Alston (2)

Scoring for the Knights: Cobbett (5), Saylor and Wolbert (4), Marsh (3), Mason and Duncan (2)

The win moves the young Bobcats to 6 – 2 on the season.

Clarion vs Karns City

On Wednesday, February 15th, the Bobcat B-Team took their 6 – 2 record on the road to Karns City. The game was played at Chicora Elementary and despite a 20-point effort from Christian Simko, Clarion came up on the losing end of a 42 – 28 game.

The Gremlins came out pressing and jumped out to a 13 – 7 lead after one quarter of play. Simko lead the way for Clarion with 5 points in the frame (including his first of three 3-pointers) and Chase Kriebel chipped in with 2.

The second quarter looked much like the first as Karns City put up 13 more points to Clarions nine. Aidan Quinn got in the scoring column with 2 points, and Simko added 7 more. The Gremlins would lead the game 26 – 16 at the half.

The Bobcats would earn a tie in the third, but still trailed by 10 heading into the fourth. Quinn added 4 more points and Simko added 3 more to his total. Clarion would also lose the fourth period 9 – 5 to set the final at 42 – 28.

Scoring for Karns City: Garing (17), Anderson and Sherwin (6), Bellis and Blair (5), Rodgers (3), Callahan and Furl (1)

With the loss, the B-Team drops to 6 – 3 on the season.

Clarion vs Moniteau

On Thursday, February 16th, The Clarion B-Team played their third game in a four day stretch by traveling to Moniteau to take on the Warriors.

Moniteau would come out shooting and take the first quarter 7 – 5. However, this would be the only quarter the Warriors would win. Milton McElravy and Chase Kriebel each had baskets for Clarion while Christian Simko added a free throw.

The Bobcats would get it going in the second frame, outscoring Moniteau 9 – 4. Simko drained a 3-pointer and Kriebel added three points. Ryan Alston got in the scoring column with 2 points and Cam Lapinto chipped in with a free throw. The Bobcats would head into the break with a 14 – 11 lead.

The Bobcats would turn up the heat in the second half with a full court man to man defense that created a lot of turnovers. This allowed them to score 11 points in the third and 12 more in the fourth to win the game 37 – 22.

The Bobcats improve their record to 7 – 3.

Clarion vs Clarion-Limestone

On Monday, February 20th, the Clarion Junior High B-Team played host to the cross town rival Clarion-Limestone Lions who were looking for some revenge after the Bobcats beat them earlier in the season.

The Bobcats came out firing and jumped out to a 14 – 3 lead after 1 quarter of play. Christian Simko lead the way in the frame with 6 points, Chase Kriebel added 4 while Ryan Alston and Cole Wrhen each chipped in with two.

The Lions got their offense going and dropped into a zone defense and won the second quarter 8 – 4. However, Clarion went into the break with an 18 – 11 lead. Alston and Simko each had a basket in the frame.

Simko kept the touch in the third, scoring 6 of Clarion’s 8 points as the Bobcats won the quarter 8 – 4. Alston added another basket in the quarter. C-L would not go away though and won the final stanza 7 – 4 but, in the end, Clarion would come out with a 30 – 22 victory. Milton McElravy and Simko each netted two points in the fourth quarter.

The win moves the B-Team to 8 – 3 on the season.

Clarion vs Cranberry

On Tuesday,February 22nd, the B-Team’s modest 2-game win streak was put on the line as they hosted the Cranberry Berries in a rematch of a 23-12 Clarion win earlier in the season.

The first quarter did not go as planned as the Berries jumped out to a 10 – 7 lead. Christian Simko scored 4 in the frame while Cam Lapinto added a basket and Cole Wrhen made a free throw.

The Bobcats stepped up the defense in the second quarter, yielding a lone basket while scoring 7 more points of their own. Luca Cherico, Milton McElravy and Simko each scored 2 points in the frame while Chase Kriebel made a free throw. Clarion went into the half with a slight 14 – 12 lead.

We kept the full court man to man pressure on to start the second half and again only gave up a single basket. Aidan Quinn got into the scoring column with 2 points. Simko had 4 in the frame and Kriebel added 2 more.

The fourth quarter would see Simko drain two shots from behind the arc to score 8 points in the frame. Quinn and Cherico each added two more points. Ezra Brooks finished off the scoring with an ‘assist’ from one of the Cranberry players (Sorry, I didn’t catch his number.) that brought the crowd to their feet and set the final at 36 – 20.
