Jonathan Smith Helps Medaille To Conference Tournament Championship (02/28/17)

Former Clarion Area Bobcat Jonathan Smith helped the Medaille College Mavericks basketball team, from Buffalo, win the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament this past weekend (Saturday and Sunday, February 25th and 26th), at their home complex, the Sullivan Center.

Medaille, from Buffalo, won the regular season championship and brought a 19-6 record into the tournament. After receiving a first round bye, the Mavericks defeated Penn State Altoona 91-77, in the semifinals on Saturday. Jon had 4 points and four rebounds in the win.

On Sunday, Jon, a 6′ 5″ freshman forward, contributed 8 points and five rebounds, as Medaille downed La Roche College 74-58 to secure the championship.

Medaille now enters the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, on Friday.

Jon is joined on Medaille’s team by another former Bobcat, Greg Bean. Greg, an assistant coach, was also the head coach at Redbank Valley before joining coach Mike Blaine’s Mavericks’ staff.

Jon, a Criminal Justice major, is the son of Anita and Jerome Smith Sr.
