Former Lady Cat Basketball Standout Maci Thornton Named MAC Commonwealth All-Conference (03/07/17)

Maci Thornton, a former Clarion Area Lady Cat Basketball standout, had an outstanding sophomore season at Messiah College, in Mechanicsburg. For her efforts, Maci was named to the Mid Atlantic Conference, Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team.

Maci, a 5′-5″ guard, played in 28 games, averaging 28.8 minutes of playing time per contest, for the Lady Falcons. She scored 304 points (10.9 points per game), 97 rebounds (3.5 rebounds per game), 79 assists (2.8 assists per game) and 77 steals (2.8 steals per game). She shot nearly 50 percent from three-point range, hitting 45 out of 95 shots. She had a career high 20 points, against Albright College, on January 14th.

Messiah won the MAC Commonwealth championship. They were 14-2 in the conference and 25-3 overall. The Falcons won 15 straight, before recording their first loss. Then they went on an 8-0 run, before losing the regular season finale.

Messiah downed Stevenson 78-55, in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament semifinal and followed with a 53-50 win over Albright, in the championship game. They fell 59-53 to Babson College, from Madison, New Jersey, in their NCAA Division III opener.

Maci is joined on the MAC Commonwealth All-Conference Team, by fellow Lady Falcons, Gillian Glackin, a senior forward, who made the First Team, junior guard Kaitlyn Hoff, also a First Team selection and Alecia Rohrer, a sophomore forward, who was selected Honorable Mention.

Maci was a two-time Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ All-State performer for Clarion Area. She finished her high school career with 1,575 points (second all-time for the Lady Cats), and was a member of the 2012-13 and 2013-14 District Nine Class-A championship teams.
