Wrestling Season Ends At Regionals For Bobcat Trio (03/05/17)

Three Clarion Area Bobcat grapplers, senior Mike LeFay (152), junior Tom Wurster (220) and freshman Ben Smith (195) competed at the PIAA Northwest Regional Wrestling Tournament, at Sharon High School, on Friday and Saturday (March 3rd and 4th). Mike and Tom finished one win away from a trip to States.

Mike received a bye in the preliminary round. He won by fall over Michael Lineman of Greenville in the quarterfinals, then lost by a 15-0 technical fall to eventual champion Caleb Hetrick of Brookville, in the semifinals. He lost by fall to Aiden Hulings of Kane, in the consolation finals. Mike’s fine season ended at 29-8.

Tom also had a bye in the preliminary round. He defeated Jack Gill of Corry 5-3, in the quarterfinals. He also fell to the eventual champion in the semifinals, dropping a 14-0 major decision to Blake Reynolds of Greenville. He came up just short making it to the third place match and the trip to Hershey, with a one-point 4-3 loss to Derek Skehan of Reynolds. Tom finished the season, with an outstanding 23-11 record.

Ben lost by fall to Jarod Miller of Reynolds in the preliminary round and to Tyler Brooks of Saegertown in consolations. Ben ended his freshman the season at an impressive 18-12.
