Bobcat Junior High Gridders Open With Tie With Punxsutawney (09/10/17)

The Clarion Junior High Football Team opened their 2017, with a 12-all tie at home, with Punxsutawney, on Thursday (September  7th).

Punxutawney opened up a 12-0 lead in the first quarter. The Chucks’ number 23 scored on a 40 yard run followed by a 20 yard scoring run by number 33.

The Bobcats closed the deficit to 12-6, in the second quarter, when quarterback Cal German rolled out and hit wide receiver Ethan Burford along the left sidelins at the Punxy five. Burford spun out of the grasp of the defender and into the end zone for a 20 yard score.

Clarion had the ball deep in Punxy territory, later in the stanza. German ran for a first down on 4th and 2 from the 12 yard line. And then on a keeper to the right German was met by Chucks’ defenders at about the 1 yard line, as he was going down he stretched out, holding the ball at arms length and put the ball over the goal line to knot the score at 12.

Neither team scored in the final quarter. One of the highlights of the quarter came when Cole Whren and Luca Cherico combined to stop a Punxy ball carrier short of the sticks, at the Clarion 10 yard line, on 4th down.

Another Bobcat who had a fine game was Trevor Finefrock, who had a number of stops from his linebacker position. He also recovered two fumbles, on on offense and on on defense.

The Cats will host Brookville, this Thursday (September 14th).

(Good opener, Cats!!!!)
