Lady Cats Soccer Team Downs Keystone, Clinches D9 Playoff Spot (10/12/17)
(By Coach Chris Schonbachler)
Tuesday evening the Clarion Area Lady Cat Soccer Team hosted Keystone. The defensive backs of both teams controlled the first 10 minutes of the game, keeping quality scoring chances to a minimum.
Clarion struck first when Natalie Glenn played a ball through the Lady Panther defense to forward Alexa Hannold. Hannold made the most of the opportunity by burying a shot into the Keystone net. Hannold would add a second goal off of a corner kick, giving the Lady Cats a 2-0 lead.
Midfielders Hope Hazlett and Emily Grabiak had strong performances, playing several strong crosses in from the touchline. Lauren Troutman struck a well placed shot late in the 2nd half, but Keystone goalkeeper Jessi Phillipi made an outstanding save.
Gabby Weaver had another strong game leading the Clarion defense as well as setting up several offensive plays.
Final score Clarion 2, Keystone 0. The win gives the Lady Cats a record of 9-6 on the season and ensures they will qualify for the District 9 playoff for the 2nd consecutive season.
