Clarion Volleyball Upends Johnsonburg, Advances To D9 Semifinals (11/02/17)

After an opening set loss the third seeded Clarion Bobcat volleyball team reeled off three consecutive wins to down sixth seed Johnsonburg 3-1 on Tuesday (October 31st), securing a berth in the D9 Semifinals.  The first set saw Johnsonburg prevail 25-18 after which the Bobcats took control of the match, winning 25-12 in the second, 25-12 in the third, and 25-17 in the fourth.

The Bobcat attack was led by seniors Alexis Constantino and Maya Thornton.  Constantino served for a team high 22 points (2 aces) and tallied 2 assists.  Thornton contributed 8 points on serve (2 aces) while leading the team with 14 kills.  Also coming up big for the Bobcats was Kaitlyn Constantino, with 13 service points (1 ace) and 10 kills.  Fellow sophomore Maddie Schill rose to the occasion as well, serving for 5 points (2 aces) and collecting 6 kills.  Freshman setter Brenna Campbell did her part, leading the way with 30 assists.

In addition to her performance on the service line, Alexis Constantino also paced the defense by coming up with 18 digs.  Following closely in this department was Lexi Lauer with 15.  Thornton contributed 9 digs of her own.  Hailey Sintobin blocked 4 shots during the match, while Schill had 2.

The Bobcats,  with a two hour trip to Duke Center, will face second seeded Otto-Eldred, this evening (Thursday, November 2nd).  The Terrors advanced to the semifinals by downing seventh seeded Cranberry in straight sets.
