Basketball: Bobcats Win Truance Tournament, Lady Cats Second In Kane Tournament (12/31/17)

BOBCATS

The Clarion Area Boys Basketball Team competed in the Carl Truance Holiday Tournament, at Punxsutawney, on Wednesday and Thursday, December 27th and 28th and Came away with the title.

The Cats downed host Punxsutawney 56-49, in the opener.

The Chucks led 23-6 after one, but the Bobcats kept chipping away. A 10-4 Clarion advantage had the Cats down 27-16 at the half. A 14-10 third quarter Clarion edge put the score at 37-30, Punxy heading into the final stanza. A 26-12 fourth quarter Bobcat advantage gave Clarion the seven point win.

Austin Hummell led the Cats with 17 points. Josh Craig followed with thirteen.

The Bobcats then faced Bald Eagle Area in the Championship Game. The Cats led 15-11 after one and 30-20 at the half. BEA led by two, 40-38 after three. With time winding down, and the teams tied at 50-all, Archer Mills sank a buzzer beater to give Clarion the win.

Tourney MVP Cam Craig scored 18 and Austin Hummell had 16 for the Cats. Hummell and Josh Craig were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Bobcats travel to East Forest on Wednesday (January 3rd) and will be part of a home Boys/Girls Double-Header with Keystone, on Friday (January 5th).

LADY CATS

The Lady Cats took second place in the Kane Holiday Tournament, defeating Eisenhower 62-34 in the opening round, on Wednesday and falling to North Clarion 48-19, in Thursday’s Championship game.

Kate Constantino had 22 points and Wendy Beveridge followed with 17, against Eisenhower. Clarion led 14-10 after one, 33-17 at the half and 48-25 after three.

North Clarion led 11-2 after one, in the Championship game. The She-Wolves held a 29-8 lead at he half and a 43-11 lead after three.

Kate Constantino led Clarion with nine points. Tourney MVP Tori Obenrader scored 22 for North Clarion.

Constantino and Ali Troese were named to the All-Tourney Team, as was North Clarions Mackenzie Bauer.

The Lady Cats will host East Forest on Wednesday and will host host Keystone as part of Friday’s double header.
