Clarion Bobcat senior point guard, Cameron Craig joined an elite fraternity, on Wednesday, January 31st, by scoring the 1000th point of his illustrious career, in the Cats’ home court 70-35 victory over the Venango Catholic Vikings.

Cam entered the game needing eight points to reach the milestone and went over the 1000 point plateau with a three-point basket with two minutes left in the first half. he finished the game with thirteen points and standing at 1005.

Cam is just the tenth Bobcat Boys player to score 1000 points.

Clarion’s first 1000 point scorer was Don Hager in the 1950’s. Frank Brooks attained the milestone in the early 60’s, followed by John Marshall, Ed Heppinger, Joe Marshall and Mark Angel in the 1980’s. B. J. Spozio achieved the one-thousand mark in the 1990’s and Ryan Hritz followed in the first decade of this century.

The last player to reach the milestone, before Cam, is Roland Shannonhouse who did it in a game at North Clarion in 2013.

The game was stopped immediately following Cam’s historic bucket and he received a rousing round of applause from the crowd as he was congratulated by his coaches and teammates. Coach Jess Quinn presented Cam with a ball with 1000 emblazoned on it. Cam, in turn, took the ball up the stands to his family.

The announcement read during the brief ceremony concluded with: “Cam is an exceptional basketball player and an incredible teammate. He has put countless hours into developing his skills and it has most definitely paid off! Cam has been the starting point guard for Clarion the past 4 seasons.

After the game their was a big photo op with Cam and family, coaches, teammates posing for  a number of folks digitally recording the event for posterity.

I am sure Coach Quinn will have more to say on this fine young man and his accomplishments, in his upcoming article on this game.

(CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU CAM, TO YOUR FAMILY, YOUR COACHES AND TEAMMATES!!!! IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE WATCHING YOU ON THE COURT THESE LAST FOUR YEARS!!!!)
