Junior High Boys Basketball B-Team Summaries (02/01/18)
The Clarion Junior High Boys B-Team has been busy. Coach Jason Craig shares these game summaries:
Clarion-Limestone at Clarion
On January 16th, the Junior High Boys Basketball season tipped off as Clarion hosted the C-L Lions. With the early start to the season, both teams showed signs of rust as they struggled to put the ball in the hoop.
Reece Geiger got off to a quick start, scoring all 6 Bobcat points in the opening quarter as Clarion lead 6 – 4 after one. Cole Wrhen was the lone scorer for Clarion in the second quarter and the game was tied at 8 at the half.
Once again, Cole Wrhen had the only Bobcat basket and we were unable to score at all in the 4th quarter. The final score was set at 13 – 10 and the B-Team would lose their opening game.
Cranberry at Clarion
On January 18th, the Clarion boys B-Team was hoping to get past the slow start against C-L as they played host to the Cranberry Berries.
The young Bobcats came out firing, scoring 10 points in the frame to take a 10 – 6 lead after one. Reece Geiger and Luca Cherico each had 4 points in the quarter while Bailee Verdill added 2.
Clarion outscored the Berries in the second and third quarters 12 – 0 and took a 22 – 6 lead into the 4th. Milton McElravy excited the crowd with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the second quarter.
Cranberry would outscore Clarion 12 – 4 in the 4th quarter, but Clarion would get the 26 – 18 win in the end.

Clarion’s B-Team moves to 1 – 1 on the season.
Moniteau at Clarion
Clarion’s B-Team played host to the Moniteau Warriors on January 22nd and came away with a 23 – 14 win.
Bailee Verdill, Cole Wrhen and Ryan Alston each scored in the first quarter as the game was tied at 6 after one. Luca Cherico displayed some hard work and effort, scoring 4 points in the second. Reece Geiger and Alston each had 2 in the frame. The team held the Warriors scoreless in the frame and went into the half leading 14 – 6.
Alston kept the hot hand into the second half, scoring 5 points in the third while Cole Wrhen added a free throw. The Bocats were outscored in the fourth 4 – 2 but won the game 23 – 14. Wrhen had the lone basket in the fourth.

Scorers for Cranberry were: Roxberry (7), Bush (4), Ross (2), Hedgelin (1)
The B-Team moves to 2 – 1 on the season.
North Clarion at Clarion
The Clarion B-Team would play their 4th straight home game on January 23rd and come out with a 27 – 16 win over North Clarion.
Both teams had a hard time scoring in the first quarter as it ended 4 – 4. Bailee Verdill had a basket in the frame while Logan MacKinley and Cam Lapinto each went 1 – 2 from the line.
The Bobcats would turn on the defense in the second and third quarters and outscore the Wolves 12 – 2 in those frames. Reece Geiger and Verdill each had 6 points in the span.
The teams would light up the scoreboard in the 4th quarter scoring 10 points each to set the final score at 27 – 16. MacKinley lead the way with 4 points in the quarter while Teddy Rearick, Will Clark and Gary Matus each added a basket.
Scorers for Clarion were: Verdill (8), Geiger (6), MacKinley (5), Matus, Clark, Rearick and Lapinto (2)
Scorers for North Clarion were: Hargenrader and Hartle (6), Gilara and Byers (2)
The B-Team moves to 3 – 1 on the season.
Clarion vs Forest Area at Tionesta
On January 25th, the Jr. High would play their first away game, traveling to Tionesta to take on the Forest Fires.
The B-Team jumped out to and early 10 – 2 advantage after one period and never looked back. Aiden Quinn lead the charge with 6 points in the frame while Reece Geiger and Luca Cherico each had 2.
Bailee Verdill took the lead in scoring in the second, totaling 8 points to help the Bobcats go into the half up 24 – 6. Geiger, Cherico and Will Clark each chipped in with 2 in the frame.
The second half would be much like the first half as Clarion outscored the Fires 15 – 6 and get the 39 – 12 win.

After a bad opening game against C-L, the B-Team has won 4 straight to improve to 4 -1 on the season.
Clarion vs Keystone
On January 30th, the Clarion B-Team saw their 4-game win streak come to an abrupt stop at the hands of the Keystone Panthers. Keystone used balanced scoring and solid defense to hand our Bobcats a 38 – 11 loss.
Reece Gieger had the only basket for Clarion in the first quarter as the Bobcats surrendered 13 points to the Panthers. Clarion got outscored 9 – 0 in the second quarter and went into halftime down 22 – 2.
The third frame saw each team score 4 points. Geiger and Bailee Verdill each scored for Clarion, but we headed to the final quarter behind 26 – 6.
Keystone got baskets from 6 different players in the fourth while Clarion managed 3 points from Geiger and a basket by Josh Witherow.

Clarion had a bad night at the free-throw line, going 1 for 15.

The loss drops the B-Teams’ record to 4 – 2.
