CCCB Tops Janney In Thriller For C.A.L.L. Softball Tournament Championship (06/23/15)

Championship Game: CCCB 2 Janney 1

In another epic game between these two teams, CCCB outlasted Janney for the Clarion Little League Softball Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon.

Pitchers Abby Simpson and Kaitlyn Constantino went toe-to-toe in this instant classic.

Both pitchers struck out the side in the first inning. In the top of the second, after one out, CCCB’s Aryana Girvan hit a ball just off the top of the pitcher’s glove for an infield single. She would eventually score on a passed ball to plate the game’s first run.

Janney answered in the bottom half of the inning when Brenna Campbell led off with a triple to right field. Sierra Brown followed with an RBI groundout to the pitcher’s mound.

Both teams went quietly in the third inning.

In the top of the 4th inning, after one out, Kyara Girvan hit a double to right field. After advancing to third on a passed ball, Girvan would score on a dropped infield pop out.

Janney mounted a threat in the bottom of the inning when Brown single and advanced to third on an overthrow. However, Brown would be cut down at home while trying to score on a passed ball.

CCCB looked to tack on an additional insurance run in the top of the 6th after Jordan Best led off with a triple. However, Constantino struck out the next two batters and got the third batter to ground out to second.

In the bottom of the 6th, Simpson was able to induce two pop outs and a ground out to preserve the victory for CCCB.

Everyone who braved the elements (the rain) was a treated to an extremely well played championship game that left nobody disappointed.

Both pitchers only gave up 3 hits for the game. For CCCB, Aryana and Kyara Girvan and Jordan Best had the team’s three hits. Meanhile, for Janney, Brenna Campbell, Sierra Brown, and Noel Anthony collected hits.

Abby Simpson was strong in the circle for the winners. She pitched all 6 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 9 strike outs.

Kaitlyn Constantino took the hard luck loss. She also pitched all 6 innings, giving up 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 13 strike outs. In the two games during the day, Constantino pitched 10 innings and struck out 25 batters.

Next up for the Clarion Little League softball will be the 11-12 year old all star tournament. Clarion has advanced to the Sectional Tournament in Union City and will begin play on July 7.

1st Semifinal: Janney 9 C&A 2

Janney plated 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and went on to defeat C&A Trees 9-1 in the first semifinal game of the Clarion Little League girls’ Softball Tournament Saturday morning. Janney scored 2 more runs in the second, and 3 in the fourth. C&A scored single runs in the 5th and 6th.

Kaitlyn Constantino led the way with a triple and single. Monica Heath, Sierra Brown, and Grace Adams each laced singles for the winners.

Payton Simko had the only hit for C&A.

Constantino pitched the first four innings, striking out 12 of the 13 batters she faced, while walking one. Heath finished up the last two innings, walking 3, giving up 1 run on 1 hit, and striking out one.

Simko pitched all 5 innings in the loss and threw extremely well. She gave up 5 hits, 6 walks, and struck out 9.
